I am a CSIC Researcher working on marine biodiversity around the planet. His basic research goal is to understand the patterns of species distributions in marine benthic habitats from local to global scales. I am interested in providing solid scientific guidance to help create a network of marine protected areas, and conserve, in this way, marine biodiversity around the globe in the context of the serious multiple threats and challenges generated by current global environmental crises. My current methods focus on gathering and organizing big volumes of social, ecological, climatic, and economic data from reef and benthic habitats at large spatio-temporal scales. I use all this information as the starting point to maximize the efficiency of our conservation efforts. I am the leader in Europe of the citizen science program Reef Life Survey.
